Overview
Having difficulty choosing between Lisbon, Sintra and Cascais? Why not visit all three…
Your week begins in Lisbon – Portugal’s exciting, dynamic capital city. Even if you’ve spent time in Lisbon before, there’s always something new to discover: our guides will introduce you to their favourite backstreet eateries and hidden wine bars, where you can learn the ins and outs of Portugal’s seasonal cuisine and incredibly varied wines. You’ll also travel south of the Tejo River to sample one of the region’s most-celebrated dishes: the classic Choco Frito, sampled in its hometown of Setubal.
Leaving the city behind, you’ll travel west for a two-night stay in the historic hilltop town of Sintra. Most day trippers spend a couple of hours running around its eclectic palaces and ornate gardens – an overnight stay is the best way to immerse yourself in Sintra’s fairytale atmosphere.
Heading south, you’ll end your holiday in the beachfront town of Cascais. This once-sleepy fishing village was transformed into a Lisbon-in-miniature by Portugal’s ruling classes in the 19th century: their exclusive summer retreat. Modern-day Cascais has a welcoming charm all its own, combining beautiful beaches and a bustling marina, with historic architecture, art galleries and museums – and ocean view terrace of your hotel is the perfect spot to toast the end of a perfect holiday.
